More pictures of my take on 3D printed F1. As requested by +Brett Turnage.
Looks good! I see a lot of similarities with my RS-01 chassis. Rear pod, damper spring, roll springs, upside down servo. How well do the axles hold up? Damn that’s a big spur gear–must be a 50 something. What ratio is the car geared at?
That clearky took a lot of work, how long have been using CAD?
@brett_turnage i started with cad in august, this is my first project.
@brett_turnage it is geared at approximately 1:2.3. Spur gear is 69 teeth 48pitch
I recently started CAD as well. I’ve been using fusion for about a month and half. I used Blender for the month before it. I love working on RC cars because it’s a great way to learn the programs fast, and there are so many parts the have to interact with each other, so it’s a huge challenge.
that’s a big gear ratio. On my Senna car, I’m running 27/97 so .278 gear ratio.
the rear diff, I see the diff balls, are there bearings as well? and does work similar to the F104/TRF102 rear diff?
if you have any video on the race or of you driving the car, you should post that too, or link to it.
The diff is working in the same way as most of the f1 cars in the market. I have fewer components in my version though.
@Kent_Asplund you should show pictures of it, it sounds pretty interesting. Have you or will you release the stl files for your car?
Yes, i will eventually publish the stl files. For now i can send the car in step format to persons interested so that they can make their own stl files. Somehow I never get to the point where I have a finished version…
totally understand. I go through lots of iterations before I find the right combination, design or setup.
@brett_turnage answer about axles: front axles never broke or bent. Rear axle is sensitive but manages surprisingly well. I bent a few in crashes but it is way more crashes than bent axles…
@Kent_Asplund I would also be very interested in your rear diff. In my opinion, that is the next biggest improvement in this car after suspension. If you can post/send the diff design that would be fantastic.
@Ryan_Hoagland The parts for the complete rear suspension (including diff) is soon on thingiverse. But I think damping is more important than the diff, springs are not enough.
