More progress. I’m probably done for today, but I now have the frame completed; pulleys, belts, motors, etc. Next up: attaching the spindle and wiring all the electronics.
(Also, please ignore the horrific mess in the background; cleaning/organizing the garage may come before the Ox is finished. In fact, I’m getting an idea for saving space by mounting the Ox to the wall using 2x4s and a hinge so it can swing down and out of the way when not in use; the electronics would be attached to wall, to prevent vibrations from shaking them apart. But, this is currently just a half-baked idea I’m iterating on in my head, so it may not happen.)
!!! Mount it on the wall!!! The motors have the strength (slightly oversized) dual Y up the wall. I think it would cut.

Know you meant to hinge and go horizontal, but…
You know, that isn’t a bad idea. Maybe some counterweight to neutralize the weight of the gantry. All the chips will drop down to one end for collection. Hmmm
@Walter_Everett exactly! Chip removal takes care of itself. Mount the work piece in clips and fasten the top. Space required for the OX just went down by 99%!
Well, as long as you’re actually thinking about mounting it directly to the wall, one other thing I was considering is to add some thick rubber between the mounting surface and the OX itself. The idea is to dissipate some of the vibration to make it a little quieter. If you mount it on the wall without any vibration dampening, the vibrations will resonate through the mount and onto the wall, making the wall act as a giant sounding board.
