Is this really open?

I believe the intent is for an open electronic hardware architecture. They’ve teamed up with phone blok. This would be cool, but I’m not holding my breath. The fact that there is a large corporate sponsor is promising though. I just don’t see how they can keep costs down with lower quantities due to custom parts. This goes against the Henry Ford business model of standardized parts. This model works, and I’m curious how they plan to lower cost.

I’m thinking they’re just name dropping 3d systems for the buzz factor, as they mentioned that they were only involved in enclosures
