MSGEQ7 people! Who’s used the chips for making their own eq circuit? I can get it somewhat working on my broadboard but I seem to be getting a lot of noise.
I had a few of these made http://uploads.oshpark.com/uploads/project/bottom_image/9kYQZb8h/i.png

What type of input is everyone using?

Im currently working with the sparkfun breakout mic… but wondering I should go with a normal audio jack&mic setup. maybe the pre-amp is picking up too much?

Im tempted to get the spectrum breakout board for comparison.

Suggestions for those who got it working well?

Back in January, I made this post (https://forum.sparkfun.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=37416) on SFE’s forums about noise. Not surprising, it received zero responses. So while I don’t have an answer for you, you may be stuck with a certain level of noise. And there are several folks who are also complaining about noise on their breakout.

this helps. i was expecting the baseline noise… it seems <100 is typical. im leaning towards my breakout mic being the culprit. I’ll try your example code and compare. thanks for sharing :slight_smile:

The only problem with that theory is that sometimes you do indeed have actual sound levels lower than 100, not just static or noise. And if you need those levels, you may run into issues.

For me map and constrain did the trick:
MID = (left[2] + left[3] + right[2] + right[3]);
MID = constrain(map(MID, 400, 1200, 0, 255), 0, 255);
