My 2nd attempt at surface finishing 3D prints to improve their appearance.

Is that direct off of the printer or has it had any post treatment?

Nope straight off the printer. I was going to do a paint effect but I really like it like that.

How did you achieve it?

The groves are cut into the design in freecad. I wish I could say it was a fancy script but I simply drew it like that.

The Japanese symbol is Yumi for bow (archery ) that gets done with inkscape and openscad there is a turorial for it on thingyverse if you look for it.

So you create pattern resembling infill?

The patern is a negative that is cut out of the design leaving the circles.

Very cool, @Michael_Scholtz , very cool.

I would love some options like this built into slicers. It’s a very nice idea and really does hide the infill pattern well.

Brilliant Idea to make use of imperfect from FDM prints other than smooth surface.

I didn’t notice the 3 mm filament setting in a new install of cura. Since I am running 1.75, it left gaps in the face of the part. I had enough top/bottom thickness that holes didn’t go all the way through. It made for a really cool 3D effect on the front. It would have been a useable part but it warped bad in a corner where there wasn’t much material. It’s something I want to investigate in the future with a part designed with that effect on the model.
I really like what you did. And applaud you for thinking it up, not like me…lol
