My bot will print at 200% but not for very long. I wanted to speed up this one particular print to i cranked it up to 150%. It was printing fine, print still looked great but the after about 20 minutes the bot stopped in mid print.
I tried and checked many things and reprinted. It had stopped the next 4 times i tried at 150% also. I think what is happening is the extra speed is drawing more current causing the drivers to overheat. Didn’t help that the dual 12v 40mm fans i have cooling the Printrboard i had running on 5V to keep the noise down. I have scene switched them back to 12v. I am a little hesitant to go over 100% now. I think i will just leave it as is, it is printing fine again. Can the current be turned up by checking the vref. If vref goes up the current goes up? I wonder what the relation would be between the vref voltage and the current as it is turned up? Incidentally i have the vref set exactly at factory specs now.

Dude, you trying to kill your motor controller? You need heat sinks on those things and some fans if you are going to tax them like that.

I have 2 40mm fans, It is a Printrboard. Haven’t seen heatsinks but i wish i did.

You have two 40mm fans pointed at the controller or something else?

Ya at the board with this fan mount i made.

Ah. I guess you could probably still use some heat sinks though. If you try out the fast print again, feel the ships when the printer stops.

I did and they are HOT! I really need some heat sinks. Maybe i can hack some kind to fit.

Knew it.

You can buy them pretty cheap from amazon with little adhesive already on it. I believe they say they are for memory

I was thinking about trying these.

If everything stopped at once I would guess you lost power altogether. Either from your supply or the fuse on the board tripped. I’ve only used RAMPS and RUMBA electronics and they along with others have a self-resetting fuse that trips from heat then resets after cooling. They are usually yellow and rectangle about the size of a postage stamp. Do get some heatsinks regardless.
