Thank you
I`m reading about different smoothie based boards, and found that there is a Smothieboard v2 on it´s way ? Any information about it ? Should I wait for it?
ok
What I hope to get from the Controller:
- X, Y and Z-axis (dual steppers on Y-axis)
- Possible to add an extra 4-axis later
- Control the spindle speed from the Controller/software using my Toshiba VF-S9 VFD (RS232)
- Ethernet connection
I guess the axis is no problem using a Smoothie based controller - the VFD I do not know?
+Peter van der Walt Seems like you have an answer for most of my questions
Need a pilot/test user ? Smoothie based controller seems like flexible solution - I strongly consider using one for my CNC project.
After spending some time reading about the different alternatives I decided to go for a Smoothie based controller for my CNC project.
No clone one of the three you listed.
More information later - thank you all for helping me.
One more thing - (I ask all, not only smoothie users) What CNC software do you use? Most of my CNC friends use Mach3/4.
I do my designs in Fusion 360 - anyone using the CAM functions in Fusion?
This is exiting I use Fusion360 for my designs, so I hope to use it with my CNC + be able to control my Toshiba VFS9 VFD from the Smoothie controller.
My plan was to get a controller that could controll X, Y and Z-axis on the CNC + My VFD + later support one more axis.
I found this group where they write that Smoothie cannot handle more than the X,Y and Z axis and that the rest of the stepper outputs are intended for extruders.
If this is correct, I may have to consider another controller.

That is great
I consider testing the RE-Arm + a CNC shield
- DM542A stepper drivers
Backed RE-Arm + Ethernet day one on kickstarter
I guess I ask al lot of questions… (sorry if I SPAM the group), but I do not know anyone using Smoothie based CNC controllers, so I have to ask/learn.

My plan is to use the new RE-Arm + Ethernet + CNC shield + 4 x DM542A (dual on the Y output using a Y split)
