My extruder and heated bed on my prusa i3 are not heating up.

My extruder and heated bed on my prusa i3 are not heating up. it shows the heated bed is plugged in but not the extruder even though I checked the connections over 5 times.It is also not letting me turn it off of idle mode.

please help.

Have you checked your thermistor (temperature sensor)? If that is not plugged in, the heating does not turn on. (Protection mode)
