My extruder motor suddenly make weird buzzing sound while extruding, anyone have any idea? Thanks
First step. Check for anything loose, screws, etc. Motors vibrate, and the magnetic field from the coils of the motor itself could contribute to that. If tightening the screws and housings doesn’t help move on to the next step. Only move on to the next step if the noise isn’t reduced.
Second step… check for slight changes in your motor setup, such as misalignment. Remember that it could be very subtle, like a slightly bent motor shaft, or loose material caught in between the motor and the driven equipment (extruder, etc). Only move on to the next step if the noise isn’t reduced.
Third step. Wait. If it isn’t a problem now, and minor adjustments won’t fix it, you may have to wait until it is obvious. If the major issue isn’t evident yet, you might not have to do anything for a long time yet. (If the noise bothers you, using some heat resistant material to absorb the vibration may hide the noise.) If the problem gets too bad for minor repairs, and the operation of your motor becomes erratic or the motor fails, move on to the next step.
Forth step. Replacement. The worst case scenario is that you will have to replace your motor. With maintenance issues like this, always go from minor to major.
As you are using smooth rods, try to lubricate the rods. May be the sound comes from that also.
