My filament always break when the printer is stillstanding for 2 days. Nobody touched it meanwhile. The room temp is between 16 and 22 °C.
Filament is PLA from Velleman. Happened with transparent, red and green so far. What might be the reason? How to change that?
Low-quality filament just does that. What could help is keeping the filament in water-tight containers with desiccant, preferably pre-dried in an oven (not the same one you cook your pizzas in) at 45C for two or three hours.
Just very low quality, most likely very easy to break too. Good PLA doesn’t just break even when forced into a small loop.
hmmm, it was in such a plastic bag with desiccant - unboxed it just 2 weeks ago…
I just don’t understand the mechanics why it breaks while free hanging and not more forced to be straight as before while printing…
Email Vellman, send this PLA back or get a refund. That’s pretty crappy PLA to snap like that. You probably have dozens of breaks hiding in the spool.
I have the same issue but with filament I believe is good quality given the source. Elsewhere I read the issue is too much humidity, possibly in combination with cold.
I find this happens if the filament has absorbed some water. Sometimes the source if the water is the desiccant (this gives up its water if the filament is dryer). You need to make sure it’s good and dry.
happens to me too. Probably because of crappy fillament, cold, humidity, old fillament.
I have it happen too with the pla of velleman but only on the last part of the spool. And i had less of a problem if I used it each day.
I saw a build with a plastic box on top holding the spools ( small hole in the bottom for the filament ). Maybe that would help for keeping it dry.
@Kristof_de_weyer I also got the problem in the last part of the spool…
