My first cut ever! Just test cutting on some bamboo with a 1/32 diamond

My first cut ever! Just test cutting on some bamboo with a 1/32 diamond pattern bit. This is a Nükprüf Reactür multitool. I get them laser cut from 304 stainless steel and got the R7 to make these and all my other stuff from carbon fiber. Problem here is it cut on the lines but I need it to cut inside the lines then engrave the name. Not sure how to alter the dxf file to get it to do that or if there is another way to go about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

What are you using to generate your tool paths?

@Darren_Lee It’s called “Dxf to G-Code converter”. I just opened a DXF, optomized and saved as NGC file.

You may want to use a path generator where you can choose the orientation of the tool as being outside or inside the lines

@Darren_Lee can you recommend one? Thanks for your help!

I use Fusion360, might be more complicated then what you need if you’re just cutting patterns, but it would certainly do the job

Take a look at EstlCam I think it can do what you need. It is very powerful and simple at same time.

@Darren_Lee I’m liking Fusion 360 so far! But I am trying to extrude and it has the wrong areas shaded or selected and I can’t reverse it. In the picture it has the eyes, nose, name and logo selected but I only want the skull selected. Any idea on how to reverse it? I have tried to look for videos or discussions with no luck. Thanks

You may want to create a block that represents the stock you will be cutting. Then reverse extrude the eyes, name, logo etc into the block (remove from the block). This essentially would create a “negative” 3D part, which is what I think you want in this case?

@Darren_Lee I want to cut the shape of the skull out along with and the eyes, nose, name and logo. I’m thinking maybe I have a gap in the skull outer lines somewhere but not sure how to check it in Fusion. This is an imported dxf from Solidworks and it was fully defined when I exported it so there really shouldn’t be a gap.

@Darren_Lee Fixed it! It was a gap!

Nice

Man, you got behind the 8 ball quick! Don’t think I had a set up machine and running Gcode this quick when I first started. Bravo!!
