My first print is currently running, woo hoo.
I think these little budget 8inch Windows8 touchscreen tablets make a great little addon screen for the reprap when they only cost $150, little nicer looking than the simple character LCD screens
would you share about how much time and money went into building your reprap? thanks for posting
What kind of windows tablet do you have that only cost $150?
All from Aliexpress, reprap prusa i3 complete kit cost around us$340 and $90 delivery to New Zealand, tablet is one of those budget Windows 8" ones from Aliexpress too (mines a Pipo w2 one there’s also Voyo A1 mini tablets same tab different brand, just look for cheapest sellers as some up the price to $200+) tablet works fine running repetier software, but I haven’t tried slicing huge designs just little ones which it does fine in a few seconds, time to build the reprap maybe took 4+ hours? But spent spare time on and off doing it, had a nice simple instruction video to watch to put it together easy
You can get the dell venue 8 tablets for a about 150$ refurb.
I think the Dell 8inch is only powered/charged via the single microUSB otg port which is also the same port needed to plug into the reprap, these budget Chinese ones use another port (mini round plug but still 5v) for charging/running (which is a good or bad thing depending on what you use the tablet for)
tell me more about these little win8 tablets. Are they intel, or ARM/Windows8-RT? IF the latter RT), what can you use to drive a printer?
@Aaron_Birenboim standard x86 Intel quadcore atom, comes preinstalled with windows 8.1 32bit 2gig ram and 32gig drive (about 10/15gig free but also has a microsd slot for a bit more slower room), just using the included microusb2standardusb cable to plug into the Mendel controller, so same as a desktop but just really small with a touch screen, easy to mount to a reprap if you wanted it permanently on there
What program is the tablet running
@Van_Robbins Repetier
K that’s what I thought it just looks a little different
Its the new version of repetier. I run it on my small printers but it seems to have a tendency to hang a couple of hours into a print on my big printer. I have been running a atom netbook on my small printers for a while with win7 its very njce for control but slicing takes long with slic3r also the graphics in repetier doesn’t refresh so running through slicing layers visually is problematic.
