My first print on a PEI surface and wow! The bottom surface (this was printed face-down) is glass-glossy (glossier than it looks in the picture) with no matte effect caused by PVA (or any other glue). Simply PLA onto squeaky-clean glossy PEI.

And it came off the bed using only fingers. Cool!

And talking of cool, that was with a 50C bed heat – I’ll now try lowering that temp – trying 40C as I type this and no sign of lifting yet. Result!

The image is a close-up – scale of those cubes on the cutting bed is 1cm square. Kossel Mini sliced with perimeter width = 0.48mm squidged into the bed by printing first layer at 75% height (numbers so you can get more of a sense of scale) – that’s a lovely surface – I’m pleased.

Slight lifting of the bottom of the K at 40C. In fact, I suspect I am already printing at a lower bed temperature anyway as the bed feels cooler to the touch (I don’t have a thermometer that’ll tell me the true temp) – I suspect that PEI is a pretty good thermal insulator, and as my temperature sensor is on the bottom of the aluminium bed…

Sheet thickness becomes a factor there. The material itself isn’t sticky when cold so effectively the warmer the better (don’t go crazy) if I remember correctly we ran 60C for the bed on PLA. It’s been a little while since I’ve used it. Can’t wait to get back to it’

Use a thiner first layer abd it will be even better

@Mario_Chirinos_Colun Thinner with correspondingly less material? Or do you mean thinner but with a thicker layer’s worth of PLA so the layer is pushed hard into the bed, as Simplify3D allows us to do for example?

I use 0.2mm height for the first layer

Try it
You wont see the extruder lines it will be smooth with out lines

Ah right, sure. This print was 0.3mm because I think the lines make it look funkier. I’m in the strange position of only being able to do test prints for the new bed from what is alreafy on my SD card, as my SD card reader has died. Replacement one should arrive some time today :sunglasses:

It’s also the case that Colorfab Shining Silver PLA seems to accentuate the lines.

It’s my favorite surface to print on. More then glass for that exact reason.
