Whoah, that’s lovely. So you melt out the PLA with a burnout oven? What are you using for casting investment?

And while I’m at it, what have you found works well for sprues and risers? Do you do this just like you’d do with actual wax? I’ve built several casting molds with low infill PLA intended for greensand casting of aluminum but haven’t had the time to actually fire up the foundry.

Yes. We use Kerr Satin Cast Investment. Same stuff we are using for jewelry casting.

We are using large spru wax intended for sculptures and foundry work. We have a blast furnace for the metal. I’m using a ceramic kiln to burn out the molds. No risers. The molds are to big for our small burn out furnace. Next school year I’ll be buying the materials to do ceramic slur dip molds. Like they use in bronze foundries.

I would love to hear how the slurry refractories work out for you. I’ve looked at those.

That looks great!
