My last 3 or 4 prints have all had this strange scarring on the sides. The scars happen in the Z plane. The pictures below were printed with the curved side pointed in the positive Z, so each scar covers multiple layers all in the same X/Y area. The scars do not show up on the opposite side of the print at the same Z. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas why it might be happening?
I had something that looked similar… I watched it, and it turned out my fan shroud had shifted down and was hitting the print. You might keep an eye on it during a print and see if there is anything weird going on when it’s printing those sections.
Or the second nozzle if you have one that is…
Thanks guys. I have a long print running so I’ll keep an eye on it and see if anything is bumping into the print.
My guess is your extruder is either skipping or stopping. It may be just on that side because your bed isn’t trammed and that side is higher, or because that side is warping, but either way… It looks suspiciously like extrusion stops.
In addition to the outright gaps, it looks like you have airy underextruded bits as well, which is what makes me think it’s an extrusion issue.
How high do you have retraction set. If it is too far then you may have a lag in filament being extruded, leaving a gap in the wall before it starts flowing again. I have only seen it on much smaller features but it looks similar.
