My LED pendant is progressing!

Thank to the helpful tips I got here the other day I got the ATTiny85 running FastLED and have some cool animation modes to come.

But almost as importantly, the physical arrangement is coming together. It’s a sandwich with these layers:

  • Custom PCB with ATTiny85 and controls
  • Adafruit LiPoly backback
  • 150 mAh LiPoly battery
  • Adaruit Neopixel 7 WS2812 “Jewel”

Currently it’s 15mm tall, which is taller than I’d like. I think I trim a lot if I integrate the LiPoly charging circuit in my board design. But that’s a new PCB, so maybe in the next prototype iteration.

As for this prototype hardware wise it’s close, but I’m still going to design and 3D print some kind of enclosure and attach a diffuser. And software wise, there’s still a lot of animating to do!

is this running on Fastled ?
one thing to ad Ifrared and you have smart pixel

It is running FastLED! What’s Ifrared?

Infra-red would be my guess.

Looks great! If you spun your own WS2812 carrier board instead of using the Adafruit Jewel, you could mount LEDs on one side, ATtiny et al on the other. For programming, use SMD test points and a pogopin jig.

@Tod_Kurt Yeah I though of that for the next version, but with the power switch and mode select button on the PCB, and LEDs on the other, there’s nowhere to slide in the battery. I’d need to work those into the enclosure somewhere instead.

Mechanical engineering is harder than I would have expected!

Tell me about it.
