My other printers are actually printing for a paying job so I dusted of the smartrap sent it some G code and off it goes… it’s such a nice printer but it’s does have a few short comings. I’m really torn between trying to sort it and using the parts for a printer similar to my P3 that was also a smart rap before.

I’m so cut on mine as well. I like the simplicity but I see flaws that I don’t see getting worked out soon. I just switched to inductive leveling as the endstop leveling was the biggest problem with mine so we will see if it improves from that.

i’m a big fan of the printer and i worked out most of the issues … including bed probing … i get really nice prints with it

@Danut_Lipsa how did you fix the bed leveling?

You can get the details from my site http://build3dparts.com/wp/?page_id=455

That is brilliant!! If the inductive setup doesn’t work well I will switch to that.

If you look at mine you’ll see I canned the auto leveling and modified it to manual levelling I haven’t had to level it in a long time.

i’ve been there …

i’m selling smartrap kits and making it manual wasn’t an option … too much trouble with support

I am designing a printer similar to the smartrap. What are your biggest complaints abour the smartrap? May be I can fix some of them. Thank you.

Better Z rods support at top … there are some issues with tall prints … i’m working on a fix for this. Except that it just print beautifully consistent.

How tall do you print and have problems?

between 10 and 20 cm … you can see that the z rods tend to vibrate more

Thank you for your help Danut. I’ll try to fix those issues.

I reccomend 8mm trapezoidal z lead screws … They make a difference

How do they affect the print quality? I am currently using M5 threaded rod, like the smartrap.

Vertical speed is inceased 8 times and more precise layes height. Also no issue with z wooble anymore.
