my printrbot simple seems to make real rough layers that make the extruder bump

my printrbot simple seems to make real rough layers that make the extruder bump worse and worse till i kill it, any ideas why?

Are you talking about the first layer(s), or a small portion that has a bit of an overhang?
What layer height and temperature are you using?
A photo would be most helpful for this kind of question.

Thanks Carlton, i am new to Google Chrome and didnt realize i got answers so quick, well im at 205 on first layer and i slow it way down to get it too stick, also use diff areas on the tape for better stick, then it goes to 195 and after about 7 layers sometimes it will start to make little bumps that are hard of course, i will get a pick now. Thanks

I started off at lower temps, but found that the PLA I had needed hotter temps. Maybe it’s the difference between the actual temp, and the temp the software is interpreting from the thermistor. At any rate, I find setting extrusion temp on most of my PLA (I have spools from 4 suppliers) to 205-210C to be the best.
Don’t be afraid to at least try out a hotter temp. Just don’t go higher than about 230C, due to the PEEK in the Ubis hot end.

Try lowering the amount of plastic being extruded by a few hundredths and seeing if that helps at all.

It sounds like your having the same problem I was.

You can also try upping your retraction. It is possible you are getting a little leakage out the nozzle. I’ve also found the filament left out in high humidity or outside in the air for extended periods has a tendency to do this as well.

verify your Extruder is calibrated and that Z is also in calibration. Now i will let you in on the true way printrbot-simple owners resolve this problem… after the 3rd layer simple reach back and turn the Z threaded rod 2 clicks clockwise…clockwise on the rod will raise the head very little but its enough to start getting smooth print again. that is also the trick if you need to lower or raise the head during the first layer to get “squish” correct to make your print stick to your painters tape… hope this helps

cool tip Steve, i will try it, recently i had a nice print going and it stopped, i think my mac went to sleep and that caused it, but i couldn’t get it to restart until i unplugged it from the power, any thoughts?

the USB port powering down will always cause you problems and usually it takes resetting the printrbot board to reset the connection. I recently switch over to using CURA instead of slicer to slice my models and i must say with CURA my models are “hands OFF” printing. no more touching the Z axis rod at all… just click print and forget… i slice in CURA and save the GCode. then open the Gcode in Repetier host. good luck

sounds interesting, I will look for CURA, i have to unplug the printr every now and then, it seems to get lost in divi-land, but usually its fine
