My prints are curling quit a bit on my #printrbot 2014 simple. Anyone have any tips? Am I just a noob? I’ve been using shurtape cp 27 on the aluminum bed and everything seems to stick like glue, but it still curls. PLA @ 192.
What are you printing on? I use 3M blue painter’s tape, and PLA sticks well to it. I tried a few other (cheaper) brands, and they didn’t stick well at all - I think it has to do with the roughness of the surface.
The trick (for me) that made a big difference is to configure the first layer to be thick and slow. In my slicer (Simplify3D) I configure the first layer to be 150% thickness and print at 50% speed, so the first layer has plenty of material and sticks well. The thicker first layer also makes prints less sensitive to bed leveling.
The other thing is that for some designs you need to put ‘ears’ on the corners. Those are typically one layer thick disks around the corners.
This article http://www.3dgeni.us/all-ears-a-simple-trick-to-prevent-curl-up/ has an example.
Could be many thing.
Fan set to high, drafts causing rapid cooling in certain spots
Do your raft or brim.
Your aluminium plate can be to cold.
Same printer here. I’m pretty much on default settings. Blue 3M tape is really good. I level so pushing a business card under the head offers a bit resistance. I can make 50mm square prints without lifting. It’s always hard to peal prints of the bed, so adhesion is good. Bigger prints, particularly if they are long and thin can curl. The room my printer in is only 17C and it’s near a window, so I’m going to try pre-warming and reducing draughts to see if it helps.
Hi Jon. I was having similar issues with my wood Simple. I wrote up what I found here: http://shortcircuitsandinfiniteloops.blogspot.com/2014/03/reducing-warped-prints-with-printrbot.html?m=1 I hope you find some of it useful.
Thanks I’ll try some of these tips.
