My scratch built reprap smartrap 3d printer is so close to being done!! Just waiting on a power supply and I have to wire up my end stops and hotend. Then it’s good to go!!!

I decided to put a mesh covering on the motor wires as it is more aesthetically pleasing. It’s super simple to do and in my opinion makes for a cleaner setup. Just have to zip tie them down from getting stuck in the bed while it is moving.

It will hopefully be printing by then end of the week!! Stay posted!!

Looks great!

what a beauty!

wonderful work griffin. I like the mesh too  I should try to find some…it’s definitely more clean.
you can cut the M5 thread Z now  haha

I’m going to build one if these using my Printrbot. Any advice?

too much advices actually
It’s a constant evolving design and it can be hard to find the right version… (my fault)
thingiverse is still ok. github is more up to date but not necessarly always in production state.

Yes @Guy_Bailey definitely build one. It’s a super easy build. My main suggestion is that you run 6mm smooth rod on the x and y axis. That way it will keep the light. The other thing is that if you shop around for parts you can build one really cheap. Mine is around $270 all in (US dollars). Just ran a drawing and I will start to print tonight or tomorrow morning.

If you run into any issues I would be happy to help!

@Smartfriendz_3d_prin Thank you so much. Coming from you that is an honor.

The mesh came from http://hobbyking.com. I believe it was only 50cents a meter and yes it works amazing!! I am really for a clean setup and once I get it working 100% I intend to wrap everything aside from the Bowden tube in mesh. I think it will look nice!

Thanks again Serge!!

Awesome! Thanks for the advice. I’m going to try starting it this weekend. Can everything be printed on a 100mm x 100mm bed?

I’ll have to do some measurements. The only thing I think that would be tight is the x axis base. I’ll measure it up and let you know. I think it would fit. And if not I’d be happy to print you one haha!!!

cool griffin. I will look for that… love the look  If you see it on our kits, you will certainly laugh .

Actually, Guy, the plates are more around 160x160… I’m affraid you will need to take separate models and build plates with that … or cut plates ? I’ve never tried that.

@Smartfriendz_3d_prin OK, I will upgrade my x axis to 200mm first then.

Unless @Griffin_Paquette Would like to print it for me still. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

But @Guy_Bailey you can print each individual part if you don’t want to upgrade the bed. It would just take a while haha. But yes I think we could work something out. Let me get mine tuned out first haha.

Ok. I’ll start by printing everything I can then take a look at my options.

If the base plate is the largest part in the kit I should be good. I had to rotate it 45 degrees about the Z axis to make it fit in my build area but I think it will work.

Yes the x base is the biggest part. Just measured it and I agree.

Unfortunately I just cracked the glass of
My build plate so I will have to get a new one on Friday.

Also my cube 2 just broke down for some reason so it will be some time next week that I will get mine printing. But it is super close. Just printing the endstop adapters.

@Smartfriendz_3d_prin I would be overjoyed to see something that I made influence your products!! Plus the mesh itself just makes for a cleaner setup look. And it’s so so cheap!!
