My sculpture ‘The Huntress’ was created for the SWELL Sculpture Festival 2017, set on beautiful Currumbin Beach on Australia’s Gold Coast.
I was fortunate enough to pick up the Jeanie Neumann Emerging Artist Award for this work.

This was my first exploration into Arduino & LED lighting & pages such as this were invaluable to me for understanding how to build this setup. A massive thank you to FastLED guru Andrew Tuline of BC Canada for the code! See links below for his repositories.

The setup uses a PIR Motion Detector to trigger different lighting states.
The default ‘resting’ state is the pulsing blue pattern that crawls from rear to front. When someone triggers the motion sensor it moves to a ‘reactive’ state and various more intense lighting patterns are looped through. As long as the sensor detects movement it will stay in this reactionary state.

The majority of the sculpture is made from mild steel, and the skeletal sub-frame is galvanized. The teeth are polished 316 stainless steel and the eyes are polished Apatite spheres.

Enjoy!

Sean’s sculpture looks absolutely awesome, and I was floored when I saw his initial photos.

This is AMAZING. Well done!

Thanks @Andrew_Tuline and I couldn’t have done this without your generous Help!

Thank you @Mike_Clifford , I’m glad you like it!

@Sean_Williams Holy mackerel what an super creation! Beautiful looking creature, great metal work and very nicely integrated LEDs. I enjoyed all the WIP photos on your site.

Thank you @marmil & @Jason_Coon ! Now that I’ve discovered Arduino & FastLED I’m hoping to integrate it into my future works!
