My Simple looks like a dead horse. Finally decided to try and swap parts to switch over to GT2 belts on X axis.
What a task, requires nearly full disassembly.
Fortunately motor mount that holds bearings was a near perfect print cause there’s no wiggle room for size discrepancies. Hopefully will finish tonight but have to admit I was trolling PB’s site looking for that all metal printer…
I went through the same pain, but with iamjonlawrence’s smaller belt design. It’s worth it.
Next up: Extended X with GT2 belts, then extended Y with GT2 belts. I’m going to keep the stock bed, but use the full size.
I’m using this remixed version of the bed extender:
I had already done the bed extension (220 mm) so figured the least path of resistance would be to use this remix. I’d printed the parts back in Jan but never got around to doing it, but now I see there are several other different GT2 upgrade iterations.
@Carlton_Dodd I’m in the uk.
Thanks for the offer though. But I’ll be fine.
Most of my upgrade parts are donations for printing things up for others.
But the simple is more fun than my Huxley as its more hackable.
thx @PUNJI_LAL_MEENA , when it’s fully calibrated and happy, the prints can be pretty nice. These parts were done slowly at .2mm at like .25’ish infill.
@James_Harrod , I picked up the GT2 kit from Printrbot’s site, which is a 20 tooth pulley. The bearings are the typical 608 skateboard bearings (I actually popped them out of a set of unused inline skate wheels).
I’ll post up pics tomorrow but the job’s done and the printer is busy making new parts that are coming out great. Just printed LED holder and now doing lower extruder tension parts to eliminate old fan holder.
Calibration was straight forward and X-axis steps went from 88 to 80.
I had to do some minor edits to the lower bed holder cause it was barely touching the pulley. Fortunately I have a belt sander and I took about 1/16" off the inside edge.
I’ll do a full write up tomorrow cause there were a few items you should do while assembling cause otherwise you’ll have to take it back apart…for example you’ll realize that the bearings and pulley should go on the face plate before installing into the printer base (ugh).
