My take on a Dual Hercustruder

I’ve been having extrusion issues with my EZStruders and have been looking at a better design that is adapted for use with a geared nema 17. After considering designing my own I found the Hercustruder and knew it was the right option for me.

A big thanks to @Eclsnowman for releasing his Solidworks files. With them I was able to make the modifications I needed to design it for my custom application.

Since my printer sits below cabinets I needed to minimize the height it took up. I could have gone further but I’m pretty happy with the gap I have (~5mm below cabinet doors)

Some of the tweaks I made:

  • Reduced base thickness to 2mm
  • Removed stock mount plate
  • Removed 2 outermost Nema 17 geared stepper mount holes (Used on base)
  • 4.2mm through to run ptfe tube to hobb
  • Mirrored extruder base
  • Designed new ptfe tube holder to receive 1/8" BSPT fitting.

I’d be more than willing to share all this assuming I’m not stepping on Eric’s toes. Thanks for looking!

Nice I like the look of it. Are you going to release the source as well?

Definitely. I made the revisions in SW2015 though so it might be harder for people to work with. I might install 2014 and redo to keep it the same as the original…

Damn kids and their new solidworks. Ive found that fusion360 does a pretty good job of dealing with native solid works files though

Please share. It looks great. Also I have been thinking of making new pieces to hold a two nuts (double up for better holding) on the Bowden outlet, and one for pushlock… But my time lately has been on other projects.

I’ll share the BSPT adapter here soon. It worked well for the short stub thread version but not the 10mm long thread ones. Trying a new print right now for it.
