My wife got me a string of LEDs, knowing that she had a husband that would find a use for them somewhere. Love you, Sweetheart! Now when I put the enclosure on for ABS printing, I’ll be able to see inside! Of course, I guess I could have just gotten a clear enclosure…but this is more festive! It lights the bed pretty well too.

Smart idea

Can they change colors?

@Chevrolet_Diesel_Nat Nah. Only white in various brightness or blinking. I guess I could have gone the RGB LED way and let my RB2 do a light show every time something is printing.

They already sing if you understand printer. Now lights! Don’t forget to include your happiness dance every time something cool comes off the printer, throw on a camera and you have a full show!

@David_Sherwood Good observation. I’ll see what I can do. Do you think it would be so bad if I centered it above the bed?

@David_Sherwood well, this room is quickly becoming my man cave, and may stay that way… so stuff on the walls might not be so bad. Makes the printer a little hard to move to another place if I wanted it portable. Maybe I need two 3D printers. The wife’ll love that!

@David_Sherwood very nice! That looks awesome and easy.

Wow cool

Never noticed a problem with mine causing vibrations in a similar configuration (the frame is quite rigid with very little movement up top while printing) but the most spools I’ve had on a machine is 4 and typically just 2. Still something to pay attention to.

If you do attach something to the wall maybe make the spools individually removable so you can put the one you want on the printer and move it around.

@Jeff_Parish good call. Perhaps I should just keep the spool that I’m using on the printer, rather than using the printer for storage. It just seemed convenient

Very nice set up. I like the overhead spool holder. I find my M3D will fail at printing well if the spool runs low as the plastic has a spring springyness.

It’s also a good idea to make your wall mounted spool holder inside a plastic container with a clip seal lid. Then you can put some desiccant in there and it will stop your stock absorbing moisture from the air.

Just something to bear in mind: if you have an external spool holder, think through what will happen if the filament tangles on the spool – the extruder can tug pretty hard. I’ve seen setups where the printer would end up suspended in mid air or worse still, be pulled off the table.
