Need help with a project: Accelerometer Controlled LEDs.

Need help with a project: Accelerometer Controlled LEDs.

My son has this Crazy Cart…it is crazy - no brakes! I thought this would be a great project to get him more involved in some IoT. (He’s 8)

I wanted to add a few LEDS light strips that would be activated in different modes based an accelerometer.
For example when accelerating have the LED strips sequence in Green, and under deceleration have them sequence backwards in red. Maybe Blue pulsing when idle and some random stuff when spinning.

My current plan is to use an ESP8266 with some WS2812bs but not sure the ESP can handle it. Can the ESP8266 control 2 or 3 individual strips? If not, what is another good low power microprocessor.

The ADXL345 seems like the commonly uses accelerometer.

Are 60 led/meter WS2812s a god choice?

Hoping to be able to run this off a large Portable USB Battery Pack/Charger.

Thanks!

Look towards drone modules.

I ordered both an ESP8266 and an Arduino Nano in case I can’t get this to work with the ESP(you can never have enough micro controllers laying around!) Also, got 1m of Acrobotic 60 pixel WS2812B, some extra JSTs. Already have an ADXL345 accelerometer. Anything else y’all think I might need?

a battery and more LEDs

@Rich_Plakas you are better off with an Feather Huzzah
and use the I2C on the ADXL345
