Need some opinions here. I have my black pcb heated bed it. It’s slightly warped but you get what you pay for from China… Anyways, I have a makerfarm 150mm or my 200mm and was going to use 3m double sided tape to put it on the back of my aluminum sheet (4mm). Could I get always with the 150mm heater pad or do I need to go with the 200?

Ideally I would like to use the 150mm makerfarm one because it is perfectly flat and I trust it more.

What’s your tolerance for longer preheat times and/or less even surface temps? 4mm will keep it fairly even (particularly if you insulate bottom/sides) but you might get 10C variation to the edges.

I wouldn’t be too bothered @Ryan_Carlyle . I’m only going to use it to print PLA.

I don’t think it would matter, since you are placing it under an aluminum plate, the heat should spread nicely…

Oh yeah, if it’s just PLA, I wouldn’t worry about the smaller heater. Not real temp-critical.

But for real, make sure you insulate the bottom well, that’ll majorly help keep the temp more even.

@Ryan_Carlyle how would you recommend that I insulate it? I’ve been printing for a while but never with a heated bed.

I’ve been using a 5mm thick cork tile bonded to the bottom of my heatbed. Red RTV sealant holds well with the heat.

As long as your aluminum bed is thick enough, the warping from the PCB should not influence the flatness of the it. I sadly had to switch back to glass after my aluminum bed warped with the PCB. That was a sad day!

@Griffin_Paquette I like fiberglass/aluminum heat-shield tape: http://www.amazon.com/Heatshield-Products-340020-Thermaflect-Shield/dp/B000QFN3DU Makes a big difference. Two layers is better than one, after that I think you get diminishing returns.

how warped is it?? If it only touches the aluminium in a 1mm2 it will need a lot of time to heat

@Javier_Prieto it is warped to where I don’t want to use it. Perhaps I’ll build an I3 and clip it to the glass so that I know it will flatten out, but I think if I add the heated bed I will just use the 150mm one for now. I don’t usually print massive parts anyways so if it’s more centralized now worries.
