Need to replace the plate glass on my heatbed but am finding it challenging to find a place that sells it locally.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Where are you located?
In the US I bought a picture frame from a “Dollar Store” and took the glass out of it. At that price, I don’t worry about breaking it. I keep several spares on hand. That said, I’ve only broken 1 in the year or so I’ve been printing, and that was due to my own error. I drove the print head into the platform and cracked the glass.
Both Home Depot and Lowes in the US will sell glass that can be custom cut in-store at very cheap prices.
Why didn’t I think of that
A lot of people buy mirrors from IKEA really cheap
Hmm, IKEA, would work, there’s one pretty close to where I live
@Chris_Connelly , local hardware stores such as Ace, ServiStar and TrueValue also offer glass cut to size. They generally have a superior (to the big stores’) selection of metric fasteners too, for when you need something on short notice.
I get my glass at the local glazier - a sturdy 3mm plate at the right size usually comes at tip jar prices.
home depot also sells mirrored tile, $10 for a six pack, they can easily be cut to size, and seem very flat.
Ikea Sörli mirrors work great. I’ve got 8 to swap around and haven’t had one break on me yet. Printing ABS on 70C mirror, covered with glue stick.
So, no one is using borosilicate? I’d not considered normal glass as I’m heating my bed to 120 degrees.
@Tim_Rastall I used ABS juice for awhile before and had to heat the platform to 110-120C to get proper adhesion. That was no problem for the mirrors though I can’t really say about long term use.
If I go 80C or above with the glue it actually loses adhesion so I don’t need to worry. It’s nice with fast warm up and bed cleanup using only tap water.
@Tim_Rastall I’ve never had a problem with regular window glass - I can even heat up one side of my bed to 120C and leave the other side cold without the glass cracking.
Huh… I’m just about to order a 300x300 piece of toughened float glass for the Ingentis , only 25 bucks but I think I’ll get a piece of 3mm window for the mendelmax
Cool, I was hoping to get some borosilicate but I’ll try traditional plate glass and see how that goes. Failing that I’ll go for a Sörli mirror until I get around to ordering something better.
@Yomi_Colledge yeah I really recommend the Sörli. They come in packs of 4. Some people think that the mirror layer helps with distributing the heat more evenly too.
@korpx cool, I’ll have to try that out
I’ve take a plate of glass from a picture that was laying around and that seems to work pretty cool with the heat bed set to 100c.
