New filament kickstarter. Bold claims about super strong PLA, no science or hard data to back them up (yet ?). Color me skeptic for now.

When the hell will these people learn that we don’t need “stronger” PLA? We need PLA that isn’t going to melt in the hot sun.
True.
@ThantiK We need lots of material innovation. The more choices for consumers the more difficult the value proposition for proprietary cartridges and spools.
@ThantiK well, PLA with a higher softening point is going to behave a lot like the other, hotter polymers. It’ll warp and it will suffer from split layers, just like ABS.
But i do agree that PLA is plenty strong already. Someone posted about an experiment he did a while back, where he basically hung a 10kg dumbbell weight from an incredibly thin PLA printed piece. Pretty impressive and definitely strong enough for most uses.
I have not once printed with PLA and though… you know what… if this were stronger i would be much happier. some of my prints had iffy layer lamination. but i have yet to break a PLA screwdriver handle… i intended to have them fail before the plastic i was screwing into… but that doesnt happen… even with 5% infil and 1 wall thickness.
Wood filament now with 100% less wood… I don’t get it
@ThantiK Protopasta are doing a high temp PLA that prints just like normal PLA. I have some but am yet to test it due to time constraints.
@Sanjay_Mortimer believe me, I’m all too aware of the time constraint issue. /sigh.
