New snow fairy costume is up and running! I'm using the 3w Pixie LEDs

New snow fairy costume is up and running! I’m using the 3w Pixie LEDs to power the skirt underglow and fiber optic ruffles, and I have @Christopher_Smolinsk ’s crystal crown on the headpiece. The costume has an LSM303 accelerometer and I have it set up so both the skirt and crown change color modes when I twirl around (!!!). Here’s some footage from our local tree lighting ceremony and electric lights parade. Happy holidays!

Looks amazing! May I ask what kind of power source you use and how long does it last?

I’m using a huge LiPoly RC car battery – it’s 11.7v / 2100mAh and it runs the costume for at least a few hours. I am limiting the power just a bit with the FastLED power management features, and it’s still plenty bright. I haven’t timed how long it will go, however… these batteries quit working if you run them all the way down so I’m being a little stingy and changing batteries after an hour or two.

Thanks for the response, @Erin_St_Blaine !

I made a blog post with more details here, if folks are interested: http://www.erinstblaine.com/2015/11/epic-light-up-snow-fairy-costume.html

What’s your impression / experience with the pixies?

I like them. They are a little tough to solder… The holes are super close together and oddly sized and I had a surprising amount of trouble. Once I worked that out, the only other trouble I had was that a few of them didn’t work, but I suppose that’s to be expected of a brand new product. Also they are power hungry little beasties. They flicker and misbehave if you don’t give them enough juice.

Thanks for the early-adopter insights!
And especially for the notes power!
