Newbie here. I have scoured the docs and examples but can’t find exactly what I am looking for. I am trying to control a string of WS2811 LEDs to use as outdoor patio lighting. I was thinking of an effect where each LED independently was slowly fading in and out with a single warm white color (I have been using CHSV(64,170,180)).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Mark’s TwinkleFOX can do that, you can comment out any palettes you don’t want: https://gist.github.com/kriegsman/756ea6dcae8e30845b5a

Try playing with @Mark_Kriegsman ’s Twinklefox sketch and adjust variables to slow it down. You can make a warm white pallet to sute your taste.

Sounds like Kriegsman’s Twinkle Fox would do the trick. https://gist.github.com/kriegsman/756ea6dcae8e30845b5a. I believe you can change the speed of the fade. The incandescent color palette was a favorite of mine on @Jason_Coon 's recent Xmas tree project. I think he may have more pallets in the Tree V.2 example

@marmil @Jason_Coon great minds

Thanks - this looks like what I need. I am getting this error when I compile:

TwinkleFOX.ino:179:21: error: range-based ‘for’ loops are not allowed in C++98 mode
Error compiling.

Thoughts?

@Tom_Dring are you using the latest version of FastLED and arduino ide?

Yes I am - downloaded in the last week

How many pixels in your setup?

Smells like an older version of GCC.

150 LEDs, Arduino IDE for Windows 1.7.11

Do other sketches work fine? Looks like 1.8 is the latest arduino IDE. Try using that and see what happens

Also what board are you using?

Updating to 1.8 did the trick. Thanks for all the advice. The board is an Uno BTW

@Charity_Stolarz  theres a 1.8??? Im using 1.6.13 on windows 10

I’m using 1.5.4 but i manually updated GCC quite some time ago. Thats why i recognized the error.

That error can be fixed by changing the settings in the IDE. I had it a while ago, just search the internet for it…

@Jeremy_Spencer yes. Isnt it in http://platforms.txt?

@Tom_Dring Did you get the latest version of FastLED directly from Github?

When you upload the sketch what FastLED version is reported in the console window?
