I guess that works fine for routing but not 3D milling.
@Marcus_Wolschon I believe it matters on the width of the skirt. If is is wide/tall enough it should be just fine. But I would cut it in half.

At work we use a brush strip instead of the rubber band.
there is less risk to hook the protection some where during milling

I was looking for a place to buy the brush but cannot find anything locally. Might end up using one from old vacuum cleaner.
