Not being able to design my own parts has really kept my back from

@Michael_Vaughan blendel, sculptris…

@Bob_Roth There we go, take any topic about CAD tools, mention you’re talking about FREE tools, and you can be SURE a SolidWorks fanatic will chime in, never failing to report that SW is the best thing to happen to mankind. Nevermind that a license costs upwards of 4 freaking thousand grands. Tell me Bob, do you have a legit SW license?

Seriously, dammit. SW users are like Apple fanbois.

Yes

I think my post about using DesigaSpark Mechanical kinda got lost.

I’m afraid it did, and I participated in this. My apologies. Even though I don’t like that DesignSpark is crippled by purpose (it won’t save in CAD formats), I think it’s very easy to use, and better than Sketchup.

Thanks @Normand_Chamberland I always appreciate your input.

So as a current Sketchup user, if I was to try something else where would be a good place to start? I’m really looking for something free/low cost which works on both Windows and Linux.

I’m open to paying for good software, but my budget for 3D modelling is under $100.

I picked up 123Design pretty quick and I am making some incredibly accurate 3d models that when I print them out they fit perfectly. I am starting to delve into autodesk inventor because it is similar to 123D I am still put off by the floating tool bar that just adds clutter to the work area but you can model almost anything.

I’m trying FreeCAD as we speak.
