Not sure what I did to get so lucky,

Not sure what I did to get so lucky, but today I got to spend my afternoon playing with the new spindle whilst my wife tidied the house!

Here I am cutting mounts for the steppers I’m using in preparation for putting 2 motors on the x-axis.

There is backlash on the x axis so I was experimenting with compensating in the model.

Obviously important to get the mounting holes at exact distances from each other. So I put two of the holes at 1mm offset on the x axis and set up the tool path to approach them such that the backlash absorbed the extra 1mm.
I also stretched the centre hole in the x axis direction on the last attempt, a little to much, but in general it improved things. Hopefully I can use the technique to help me until I’ve got the x axis sorted out.

Water cooling seems to be working great, very quiet.

@Peter_Fouche1 interesting idea, might be worth a try. To be honest in this particular place it’s not that important that the circles are perfect. The plan is to continue working around the flaws in the machine to allow it to create parts that will improve itself.
