Not sure why there are these “Goofy Layers” any ideas? And remedies. I havnt had this issue before.

The effect repeats at intervals. I would suspect a filament feed problem. Is your filament reel periodically sticking?

@Neil_Darlow is right on the money…or your hotend is clogging…the layers are missing material you can see that really well on the right hand side of the object.

@Jeff_Gould I considered an impending jam but the recovery is difficult to explain. Unless the hotend cooling fan is switching on and off at intervals instead of being constantly active.

To me, it looks like periodic starvation of filament from the feed side rather than the hotend but I am always ready to be proved wrong.

@Neil_Darlow I had the same issue, with very similar results, hotend was jamming because the layer fan got bumped up and was cooling the nozzle…nozzle would cool, jam, build up heat, unjam, work, cool, jam…repeat. I believe the interval is related to the PID tuning to control the internal temp of the hotend.

Ive changed out the filament roll and im not having an issue yet with the new one. I suspect maybe the internal filament housing wasnt allowing the near empty roll to spin with ease. Ill try this new roll for a few days and see if i get it again when its low.

Are you using a heated bed?

No there isnt one for the M3D printer. Have been printing nonstop for 2 days on new filament and havnt had a failed pront yet though.
