Noticed my power supply making some pops and clicking noises. Time to replace it?

If it just started to make noises, and was silent before this, that’s bad. Any ozone or heated/burned insulation smell?

BTW: Jerky video is difficult to focus on problem.

Sorry about the video, its from Glass and I didnt take them off to hold still for a moment. I figured it was bad so I’ll order a few more.

Maybe something fell into it and the fan is hitting it.

I’ll flip it and see what falls out but it sounds more electrical than that.

Check that the wires are secured. Could be a loose connection. Also, is it getting warmer than usual? Try to turn off the light (at night) to see if there are any sparks from a bad connection.

I’ve got the exact same PSU sitting around, waiting to be integrated into a big-ass LED lamp.
The cracking noises you mention are impossible to hear in the video - but i’d generally check if the capacitors are bulged and heating up or if any other part of the PSU is hotter than usual (use an IR thermometer). Mine came with a loose ferrite core in the main transformer - if yours worked itself loose, it might mechanically start oscillating and make unexpected noises.

@John_Ecker_GeoDroidJ It’s a fanless power supply.

@Ben_Van_Den_Broeck I could just make out a noise in the video, and an the dozens if not hundreds of those I’ve run, I’ve never heard anything like it. I wouldn’t take any chances with it.

A while ago my printer and power supply kept sounding like they were discharging static electricity every few minutes. I never found the exact problem but it stopped when I kept the wiring off of any metal on the printer and put a non slip mat under the whole thing…

Hmm. Well I found a big white spludge of something coming out of blue disc with copper wiring around it. All my PS have a small dab of it, but this one is overflowing so I assume something popped.

@Ben_Van_Den_Broeck I suppose you’re talking about the output inductivity, here: Google Workspace Updates: New community features for Google Chat and an update on Currents ?
That guy has nothing that could could pop - the white stuff is a silicone adhesive that keeps the ferrite cores in place and suppresses audible chirping.
