Now that the design is progressing it looks quite likely that the printer will indeed break down nicely to be flat packed in a Pelicase. I’m hoping to fit the full printer in a Peli Storm Case im2200, so pretty neat and compact.

Simple, elegant design.

Did you leave space in the case for some filament too?

@Marcus_Wolschon I’m planning on using the lid space for a laser cut filament spool, though not sure how much it would be able to hold as of yet. That part is a little further down the design line!

@stig_atle_steffensen n I’ve not finished the design yet though I believe it should be very easy to source the parts I’m using to build your own! The V-slot rail looks really nice, just awaiting some more vitamins before I build my design.

Why isn’t this on kickstarter yet? I want one!

How stable is it? Do you have a maximum movement rate to keep vibrations down? Love the idea!

@Andrew_Mazzotta last warning. There really is no need to add a promotional link to everything you post.

@Edson_Medina thanks for the comment, though this printer should be easy enough for anyone to source and build without a kick starter! Once I’ve finished my prototype I’m sure I will be able to offer kits for those wanting them.

@Phil_Wheat unfortunately I am still in the design phase so can’t comment on the stability, though looking at the amazing Bukito which uses the same structure (V-slot) it’s looks nice and stable!

@Andrew_Mazzotta I don’t see why not! I’m using GT2 as it’s easy to source, though would be easy to change out the idler and drive pulley for synchromesh.

This looks so cool, what software are you using to design it?

@Spenser_Lee I use Solidworks for all my designs.

@Simon_Day OK, just wondering. Know how much vibration I can get in my Ultimaker mutant, so it is something to consider.

How stable is the x gantry hanging off the z? I only ask because I’m a shamed owner of Eventorbot. Your design is waaaaay better, but I’m so weary of oscillations that my new design is a rigid MISUMI box

@stig_atle_steffensen
Stig, This machince is remarkably like the Bukito which can be ordered Deexmaker.
Whosawhatsis is very involved with that design. maybe it is not meant to fold but it is so light a small drone could move it for you.

Love this design. I have the original printrbot GO, which is somewhat portable (could theoretically carry it on a plane, I put mine in a Pelican 1600 instead), but has a large build volume too. I love it, but can appreciate more practical portability for sure (carrying this beast on the subway is no joke). Look forward to see how it turns out!
