Ok guys. Another tough question for you electronic geniuses.

Ok guys. Another tough question for you electronic geniuses. so thanks for all the support from last question, I finally know what to get and where to buy it. but now I discovered that my ATX only stays on for like a sec before turning off again. Now I’ve tried shorting the green and black, that turns it on for a sec. I’ve tried shorting the orange and brown ( I heard that would help) but that seems not to do anything. I’ve tried to put a dummy load on the red and black but that didn’t work either. Any thoughts?

If the load is too high on an ATX power supply, it has protections that will cause it to shut off. If you’ve blown a fuse, the same thing will happen.

@ThantiK is there an easy way to check

You’d have to find the schematic for the power supply.

ok thanks is that the only reason it doesn’t turn on or could there be another

I’d have to agree with @ThantiK on this one. Sounds like a fuse tripping.

Unplug stuff and see if PSU stays on. It could be a short. ATX PSUs aren’t necessarily made for high loads on the 12V rails, they vary, you might just be overloading it.

Make sure it is over 400W. I found that anything smaller is to under powered

I agree with @Rick_Kerkowich I have a 500W and I often find that not to be enough.

oh ok mine is 350w but that is the same one sent out with the heatedbed upgrade if bought it

The wattage of an ATX PSU is the total but that doesn’t necessarily mean the rail you actually want to use is the same. I’m guessing your heated bed is 12v? Whats the +12v current on the one they sent with the heated bed the +12v on your one?

By the way another thing that can cause this is if you have no load at all on the rails you are not using. Sometimes the PSU’s require at least some load.
