Ok, I’m starting to be happy that I spent the effort to port Neomatrix to FastLED. Now, thanks to Adafruit::GFX underneath, and http://oleddisplay.squix.ch/#/home , I was able to do this with minimal effort.
Woah nice fonts
Go team TFSF8!
@marmil thankfully I was able to get them from Font Converter and generate NeoMatrix-FastLED-IR/fonts.h at master · marcmerlin/NeoMatrix-FastLED-IR · GitHub , or it would have been a pain in the ass (not even talking about finding/writing/adapting generic bitmap zooming code). I just generated all font sizes from 6 to 32, and I’m displaying them in sequence. The tricky part was moving the cursor to the correct left/bottom corner for each font size.
As for TFSF8, nice guess, but it’s actually Trance Family San Francisco, and we’re having a big event in 6 days. The display will be on my party shirt (along with other animations) if all goes well.

What almost never fails is people asking me “oh cool, where I can buy this?”. Another common one is “how much did it cost”, to which my answer is usually “more time than money”
(although the neopixels are around $120, but time-wise if I count creating FastLED::Neomatrix, and now the time spent creating animations, it’ll likely be around 2 weeks of solid work spread over a few months).
Ah cool. Hope you get some photos from the event to share.
@marmil Photos? I don’t do photos… Oh wait, maybe I do, maybe even too many

Lot of music events as long as they have trance

Cool slippers!
@Roger_Kolasinski yeah, yeah, I was wondering what comments I’d get on that
Yea, its amazingly difficult to get me feet out of the way, too
Using the shirt as a diffuser almost works, but not quite. Besides I need it centered and the middle of the shirt would get in the way
missing/deleted image from Google+
For a diffuser I use architects tracing paper - I don’t think it’s paper, more a translucent/matte light plastic sheet. Of course, being ‘paper’, you can draw on it permanently, which makes for good borders on lampshades, etc. It works with inkjet, but check the specs for lasers - I haven’t put it in a laser printer yet, as I don’t know what the melting point would be.
Marc - this looks excellent! I started a new job and can’t access google plus at work anymore (I know, right?) so it’s severely hampered my ability to keep up with the goings on. At the beginning of the summer I need to jump back into playa projects, so I’ll be catching up on all the work you’ve done porting neomatrix.
And we’ll definitely have to have a LED rendezvous in the desert!
@chad_steinglass May I suggest checking on social media from home instead of work, then?
And yes, it should be fun to meet people at BM.
I’ll also be at EDC in Vegas if anyone goes to those things (although maybe not, I seldom see self built neopixel stuff at electronic music events I go to).
