OK, I’ve been beating my head against a wall and could use some suggestions. (Yes, I already considered “beat harder” and “drink heavily.”)

I’ve assembled my #CobbleBot , compiled and uploaded Marlin. Seems to power up fine, and the LCD display goes live. I’m getting no movement at all on any axes, whether through computer control (e.g. MatterControl) or through the LCD display/control. (I’ve tried taping down my limit switches, just in case the logic is inverted in my settings somewhere - nothing.)

I have a couple of reasons for thinking it’s a power issue, maybe a bad RAMPS board. The first time I powered it up, one of the 8825 drivers (the one on the X axis) burned out in a little puff of smoke. I’ve ordered a whole new set of 8825’s, but in the meantime I swapped the one from the second extruder onto the X axis. (To date, no more smoke puffs.)

Still no movement, though, and, I’m getting the display gradually fading out and becoming unresponsive. I tried pulling off all the drivers and disconnecting all the steppers, and the fading problem went away. I then reconnected a couple of drivers and steppers (the dual Z’s) and the problem didn’t seem to return. Unfortunately, I still have no control over the connected steppers. Connecting one more driver and stepper (in this case, the X) makes the fading problem return, but it takes longer to start fading, and takes longer to fade away.

So? Any suggestions? Bad RAMPS board, or something else going on?

Oh, and I recompiled Marlin for a single extruder board type. Didn’t seem to make any difference.

Are the 8825 in the correct way? They are inverted >< (I had mine wrong the first time).

Sounds like a bad board or your drivers are reversed. Did you make sure you put in your microstepping pins?? That was my issue when I made my first pritner

Sonofa… (sigh) Yes, I had them the wrong way round. None of my materials made reference to the orientation being reversed for the 8825’s. Wonder how much other stuff I’ve burnt out now…
Thanks, @Markus_Granberg !

Ramps are dirt cheap if you burn them out:-) if it is let me know I have a good quality used one I would sell

@Griffin_Paquette Yep, pins in place - time to figure out how much other damage I’ve done now. (I already ordered a replacement RAMPS and Mega2560 - figured there’s no harm in having spares on hand!)

All mine survived

Two drivers burnt out, but the RAMPS seems fine right now, so I should be able to get all three axes running properly while I’m waiting for my additional drivers to run the extruders. Now I need to true and parallel the dual Z screws.

It you live near a Microcenter they sell drivers, but they are like $8 each the last time I checked. You overpay but could get it now;-)

I have no problem overpaying but no Microcenter or other likely supplier near me… :frowning:
