Ok looking for some feedback, I am designing a new printer with a build volume of 650x650x700mm with a stationary build plate. Made that out of 1/4 inch tool plate so it is heavy as hell.
Here is my dilemma I am thinking about going with the openbuilds v-slot but have 0 experience using it and not to sure about the whole wheels vs linear bearings. Any input would be appreciated.
The wheels are 1000x better than linear bearings so long as you’ve got a few of them. V-slot will span a lot longer distances without having to be majorly beefed up, and don’t have to be constantly lubricated.
Thanks for the input… I just ordered like 2k worth of v-slot. After a few design changes I ended up going bigger with a final build volume of 1000x1000x1200mm lol. Now the biggest thing to overcome is z movement. I am going to start off with 4 independent z screws one in each corner. Figured if I went .9 degree and did not micro step them it Gould give me a .05 layer hight with even steps, plus less likely to miss a step and bind. But we will see what happens.
