One of our customers did this beautiful polished pewter casting of a piece I designed and printed on a Bukito in PLA.

@ThantiK - thought you might want to see this.

That is a beautiful 4 sided dice

So, I have a question: Was the PLA burnt out in a furnace beforehand with the typical 50/50 mix of plaster of paris/play sand, or was the pewter cast in and allowed to burn out the PLA? I’m guessing the pewter wasn’t directly poured over the PLA, as I don’t think there’s enough thermal mass there.

s/casing/casting/ ?

I don’t have the details. I printed a bunch of these, the master for this disappeared from my desk when I wasn’t there, and the metal version also arrived while I wasn’t there as a surprise. I’m not even sure how long it took, though I know that the bronze castings we’ve had done were a multi-step process that took several weeks. It’s my understanding that the PLA is generally burned out as a separate process (probably while curing the mold), rather than being melted by the process of pouring the hot metal in.

@Phil_Hord fixed, thanks.
