Ooh! If you have, or are waiting for, or intend to buy a Prusa i3 MK3 then this is exciting stuff:

How the new MMU setup work? Looks like the right motor in the picture moves the bowden tube to select filament, but what’s the other motor for? Does that push filament to the direct drive extruder?

Also finally time estimates for slicing!!!

Looks like they still didn’t fix the y motor mount.
And then theres this: “linearity correction for the MK3 extruder”

Just use a 400 step motor. It costs the same, and fixes the issue while increasing accuracy. I did it on all my printers.

@Lukas_Mathis So still no good for super flexible material but hey, I can live with that.

@Mark_Wheadon Although it only has to push the filament down that tube, it’s not trying to squeeze it out of the nozzle. That’s the job of the extruder stepper which pulls through the tube. So it might just handle the likes of Ninjaflex OK…

@Lukas_Mathis Make that a definitely. Pushing the molten filament out at speed takes a fair old push.

@Stephanie_A can you link where to get those stepper motors plz?

I think it was these: https://m.banggood.com/JKM-Nema-17-0_9-Degree-42mm-Two-Phase-Hybrid-Stepper-Motor-1_33A-34mm-For-CNC-p-990669.html

Does anyone have more info on exactly how it works?

@Justin_Nesselrotte We only have one picture, but it seems there are 5 filaments arriving on the MMU2 unit (we see the holes aligned horizontally): one motor moves the bowden tube facing the required filament and the other one pushes it (and only the required one? how?) until it reaches the direct drive extruder. That means the bowden is only used to guide the filament and getting pulled by the direct drive extruder :two_hearts:

@Julien_Dodokal so I’ve asked a few people and everyone has the same questions I do. Guess I’ll go tweet at Prusa
