Open home automation blog covers experience using BeagleBone Black
Sounds like the writer had a great out-of-the-box experience. I found it notable that he is giving Angstrom a strong vote of confidence despite using an Ubuntu workstation on the same LAN.
As someone who does not yet have a BBB, but who has been doing a lot of BBB reading, I also learned that one can download the Cloud 9 IDE and run it locally, i.e. - apparently it isn’t necessary to maintain a cloud account. Is this correct?
No cloud account is required at all. Not even sure what made you think a cloud account was required.
@Jason_Kridner Thanks.
An out-of-the-box promotional video I watched soon after the BBB was released left me with that impression. I did ask the question in an earlier post but I didn’t pick up the answer until now.
Coding Bonescript locally simplify might things for me. If I get a BBB, it will be my first Linux experience of any kind. I am not afraid of learning through immersion but given the choice, I would rather be immersed in 4 new things, not 5 or 10.
1 new OS, 1 new programming language, 1 new computer, and focusing those 3 to support a naive interest in electronic prototyping amounts to 4 significant challenges. I am still on the fence but leaning in toward the BBB.
