I like the fact that it’s an easily disassembled complete package. Where are the pictures and videos of printing? What’s the pricing?

Maybe you can visit the site of the company http://www.micron-eme.com/

There’s no obvious link to pricing there…which is too bad, as it’d be a GREAT part to my next non-Bowden printer.

Look for ““ALL METAL” STATE OF THE ART 3D PRINTER EXTRUDER, 1.75 FILAMENT HOT END, REPRAP” on ebay. Im NOT selling any of this parts or am I associate partner of Ebay

Anybody got some information on what part of the extruder they are trying to patent? All i could find was an application for a transdermal antenna intended to be partially inserted into a cavity in the body of a mammal, and i don’t really think that’s the one they’re mentioning.

They’re claiming patent pending, so they would be able to sell if they’ve been given that status officially.
I believe the patent might be to do with the detachable filament guide and nozzle module.

Personally, I don’t think the features are ground breaking enough to demand a 290 dollar price tag.

No, but you’re missing a critical thing that most people think: There’s a VAST difference in cost in making a metal precision part in the dozens, vs. making thousands of mass produced items. You’re paying for a part thats in multiple pieces, all that take significant time in one more more CNC machines. You’re paying for the programming, the short- run anodizing, and their knowledge and R&D to get the part to you.

It’s also one of the biggest destabilizing aspects of additive printing. If you don’t need your part in metal, suddently your $50,000 prototype becomes a $15 printout.

$300 is pricey, but it’s not INSANELY pricey. I could see them making tens of thousands of them at $150, and hundreds of thousands of them at $89.99…but they wouldn’t be as ‘pretty’.

for USD289 price tag (+USD20 shipping) i see on ebay, is there a 5/10year defect warranty? or any warranty of any kind?
oh … what abt 3mm filament?

@Jelle_Boomstra the hotend itself fall right into that price bracket, the $300 are for the whole hot and cold end, including the extruded and geared stepper motor. It looks like they made a small run with just 20 to sell, so I’d think the pricing is alright if the extruder is really as great as they’re marketing it.

@Jelle_Boomstra quite the opposite, they’re one step past the prototype stage, where they’re trying to recoup the R&D costs and judge the market before going into ‘real full time production’.

Protyping is expensive, it’s not until you dedicate your million dollar CNC station to full time production for the whole year selling millions of these things that it becomes relatively cheap…then China comes and cuts your knees out from under you because they have relaxed labor, legal, and operational requirements.

so true mike, i bet some drafter in CHINA is looking at it now and doing something about it with the boss barking behind him “faster !” … i wonder, have any 3D prototyper managed to fend off any CHINA copycats?
