I finally finished my 3D Printer cabinet, I’m hoping it will keep the sound and heat in and the moisture out. Sharon says it looks like it should have dinosaur bones in it or something, I’m gonna take that as a compliment.
I will say one thing, I now have a new found respect for cabinet makers of old; making everything line up and parallel over large distances when you have no rigid side panels is actually quite hard, especially when you don’t want screws on show.
You can probably spot in the pictures but all the perspex panels are removable except the rear. The top lifts of, the front slides upwards and the two sides fold out when you undo the thumb screws.
That looks like real wood. I love real wood. I would grab discarded wood shelving and stuff if I see it on the side of the street. They do not make such sturdy and beautiful things anymore.
I think you should rig a humidifier up so it looks like steam billowing out the back to help complete the “steam punk” look that @Reinhardt_Kraemer mentioned. Beautiful!
@NathanielStenzel its mostly made out of the wood from an old mahogany school desk I got from a timber reclamation yard. I totally agree, grab and recycle real wood everywhere you can get it, especially hardwood. Even if it looks terrible once you plane it down its amazing and like new again
@Josiah_Ritchie I need to learn how to work with brass then I can really start to do some steam punk stuff At the moment I can 3D print plastic and I’m just learning to use hardwoods like mahogany but I’ve not done anything with brass before
Unfortunately I’m in the UK but cheers for the links. My preferred supplier is http://3dfilaprint.com/ they are starting to do more exotic stufff now so I’ll keep my eyes peeled. At the moment I’m testing out Laywood and Laybrick. Very impressed with Laywood so far, not tried the brick yet. I got good results with NinjaFlex as well.
