My second print on my new Up Plus 2 printer. It is part of a test rig for a robotic arm design that my friend @Gray_Wine is working on. I was a little worried about this one because the circle section does not lay flat on the bed, but the printer did excellent and the parts are essentially flawless. The scaffolding gets built up underneath and the results were perfectly straight and true.

The printer is available on Amazon:

Glad that you are having a good experience with the UP! But please disclose that you are providing a tagged referral link in the future @james_wolf
@Thomas_Sanladerer . @ThantiK I think we might need to add that to the group guidlines or shall we just blanket ban them? Personally I think we need to take a hard line on this.

@Tim_Rastall agreed. I talked to @ThantiK earlier today and that’s pretty much his opinion, too.
So, no referral links. Period.
Which the g-doc with the “full guidelines” already mentions, so guess I should rename that to “rules”.

Believe me, when I heard that Massdrop gave out referral bags full of goodies, I immediately thought to myself “OOH! I should probably…not. If anyone else did it, I’d probably be pissed” – so I only posted my referral link in my own personal page.

Now, all referral links aren’t bad. I actually wanted to create a referral link for the community to the E3D page so that @Sanjay_Mortimer could keep track of how many people we were sending his way. (If any?)

And when it comes to Amazon links, I wouldn’t be too hard on people - sometimes it’s hard to distinguish what’s referral and half the time when you try to remove it, it breaks the link. So @james_wolf you’re good. No worries. :slight_smile:

@Tim_Rastall , I apologize, I didn’t know that would be an issue. This was a reshare (I shared privately first) and I edited the original post but that doesn’t seem to change the text on the reshares. I just joined the group cause I just got the printer, it wont happen again.

@james_wolf
No worries, with so many members and so much spam (you don’t see it much as we are pretty onto it) we have to try to be consistent with how we treat this sort of stuff. Welcome to the community btw. Please keep posting on your robotic arm development. Incidentally, I really heart the UP! Support capability. If you felt inclined to do some up close before and after shots, people would be interested; the open source software still hasn’t matched what the UP! can achieve in that regard.

@Tim_Rastall yeah thats the reason I went for the UP. I wanted something could print easily. I do a lot of projects with Arduinos and Raspberry Pi’s and needed something that could concentrate on my projects and not have to continuously tweak the printer. I read the Make Magazine’s articles on the Afinia (almost got that) but saw this had auto-leveling and nozzle adjustments.

My boss has a rep-rap (that he built) but spends more time making adjustments and trying to perfect the process. Which one do you have?

@james_wolf
I have one of those ones that requires lots of tweaking but I enjoy that sort of thing :slight_smile: You’ll find a, bunch of stuff relating to it in my feed.

Wow, nevermind, I just looked at your stuff, very impressive! I am just getting started, but I do a lot of posting on RPi and Arduino. Now that I have this beautiful toy you should see more from me. :slight_smile:

Hmm. Is that abs you are printing with? I see the fan is on, does it stay on for the whole print?

Thought I was smoking something watching the video, what camera did you use?

@Tim_Rastall yeah it is ABS, a roll of white came with the printer. And yes the fan seems to stay on the whole time that the extruder is at temperature

@Bruce_Jackson the camera is my phone, Galaxy S3, i think the auto-awesome causes the trippy effect because my camera angle changes slightly while it was recording

actually I just went back and looked at that video on my phone and it DOESNT have that trippy effect, I think it must be the auto-awesome “enhanced” version that causes that, maybe because if the weird lighting and how the platform is moving is confusing the enhancing software, weird
