I could use some help! I have build a cnc mill (see photos) and now i need to know how to set it up software wise. I know about linuxcnc and mach3 but i don’t know how to set the connection to the Ramps 1.4 board (atmega2560).
My hope is that someone has done this before with a Ramps 1.4 (3d printer controller).
Any help is welcome!
I know of this http://sourceforge.net/projects/grblforramps14/ but don’t have a mill myself.
Also recall a g+ post about this not long ago, which I believe used a newer grbl?
Yes I found and tried this. But the pins are all screwed up. For example the endstop pins are on the wrong header.
I found some post here on G+ though that has a correct version (i think)
While I know this can be done, I believe there are tradeoffs in using a 3d printer controller for a CNC, and vice-versa. Have you considered using a dedicated CNC controller? I obviously don’t know your budget considerations but a really good CNC controller can be had for around $150. Since you already have an Arduino you might want to look in to re-programming it as a GRBL-capable device … you should be able to do that quite cost effectively.
This is funny! As I am writing this to you I glanced at the next item on my feed, and it’s someone that has achieved the use of marlin on ramps 1.4 as a CNC device! Take a look! https://plus.google.com/+Fabricefabrap/posts/Hx4UVcmFzHS
Thank you for that @Kevin_Hauser . Though i have just spoken to another member that has GBRL for ramps1.4. I will go with that first since it has dedicated support for cnc.
If that doesn’t work than i will try the marlin variant.
