Aparently a user named “NextCopter” has taken at least one of my @Creative_Commons NON-COMMERCIAL designs and is offering it on @Shapeways .

  • selling physical copies of my design published as NC
  • displaying my design as automatically rendered 3D view (no physical object) to advertise this sale
  • no attribution of any kind
  • usage of my photos that I did not license at all

Currently waiting for more details and action from the Shapeways abuse department.

Ugh oh! It’s a shame for people to not only steal your work, but to pass it off as their own.

Not just mine.
I’ve seen scores of Thingiverse CC-BY projects from different designers sold there and not a single one has attribution or different photos/renderings.

Unfortunately there are those that think Creative Commons has no enforceable value and we are not necessarily in a position, financially, to pursue them through legal channels. The best that can be done is to get their objects removed from sale - as you are doing. No doubt the offender will soon be back under another pseudonym after this is done.

The same shapeways user has the ubiquitous Yoda bust from Thingiverse, and a very familiar looking Raspberry Pi case as well, all without any indication that he’s not the designer. I don’t immediately recognize the rest, but wouldn’t be at all surprised to find they’re all Thingiverse designs from other designers as well.

If the user turns out to be German (or at least European), go and visit a lawyer. Those that specialize in copyright and intellectual property can work out an appropriate invoice and help you enforce it, usually at no cost to you.

I had about a dozen people copying my hall sensor endstop, and all “forgot” to mention the original design by MaukCC.
as a result everything I do now is also NC.
And it will be enforced.

@Thomas_Sanladerer , every day…every damn day I hear something about Germany that just simply makes me think it’s a place full of people who actually know wtf they’re doing.

Btw, if you have a by-nc-sa license without a waiver, shapeways is not allowed to sell it either.

@ThantiK naw, we still have plenty of idiots running the country.

Doesn’t every country?

Great, another one by a user named
“Svenstead”.
Also without attribution, commercial despite the NC license and without a share alike download option.
