Am I crazy or would this motor actually be a decent fit for the shapeoko2? It is 2.8 inches in diameter while the stock shapeoko2 mount is about 3. Due to the bolts/screws on the standard mount, I would need to use a pipe clamp or mill a new mount, but hey, I have a shapeoko2 for making that.

By the way, I got this for $20 at a used goods store.

The used stuff is the good stuff. SKIL is a pretty popular drill press brand I believe.

It looks like this model of SKIL router was not made after 1986. I imagine it will work fine for me though.

On a stock machine, no.

On a machine suitably upgraded, yes, but I wonder at the economics of that, and the advantages of it.

There’s a guy who just did a similar class router for his muchly upgraded X-Carve and posted about it on the Inventables forums.

@Kevin_Barry by the way, this motor is only a pound or two.
