Remember this?
I went on a little nostalgia trip this weekend. Now I remember why I used to hate printing with ABS. We’re spoiled for choice with new materials now. Just listen to it cooling!

ABS doesn’t build well in open air. Some people make up for it by cranking up the nozzle temp. I haven’t had problems like this once I started using a heated enclosure.

Gotta use an enclosure, keep that heat in and the part as close to bed temp during the print. It is a pain, but worth it for ABS.

I’ve actually just gone back to printing ABS. Although it’s a blend with low warp and a lower needed bed temp, with no real noticeable odour. (more info in my post further down the page)

That sound! :disappointed_relieved:

A very recent memory, for me.

I started playing with a 3D printer in April 2017, so of course started with PLA. Did make some attempts at printing ABS, in the last few weeks, at first with results like you show above.

Built a (very) ghetto enclosure (below) to see if it would help. It did. Was printing parts for a proper enclosure, until my printer malfunctioned…
